How Many Visits Does it Take to Have a Veneer Applied?

Veneers usually can be applied in two visits. During the first visit, the tooth must be prepared for the veneer. A small amount of the tooth’s surface material will be removed to make room for the veneer thickness so the veneer is level with the surfaces of the neighboring teeth. An impression will be taken and sent to the lab where the veneer will be made using the most advanced materials and techniques, and a temporary veneer will be placed on the tooth to protect it. At the next appointment, the temporary veneer will be removed, and the permanent veneer will be attached to the tooth with a strong adhesive, then buffed for a perfect fit.

How Should I Care for My Veneers?

Veneers can be cared for with brushing and flossing, just like natural teeth. Regular dental checkups and cleanings are also important to make sure the veneer stays in good shape and the underlying tooth and surrounding gums stay healthy. It’s also important to avoid chewing on ice or hard candy to prevent chipping the veneer (or your natural teeth). With proper care, today’s veneers can last 10 to 15 years or even longer.
